Finding Equality in Fashion
MEET MADISON BUYER DESIGNER: Equillibrium
What inspired you to jump into fashion?
I have had a genuine love for fashion for as long as I can remember. I’ve always lost sleep over clothes- either the excitement of wearing them, or the inspiration to make them.
What makes Equillibrium different from other brands?
The lifestyles and ethics Equillibrium comes from heavily contribute to its uniqueness. The brand Equillibrium represents a lot of core values, many founded on respect & rooted by a strong moral compass. Specifically, my background is from living a life inspired by skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, nature, wildlife, marine life, sustainability, ethics, and fashion. Equillibrium started in 2000/ 2001, conceived in 1998.
As a designer, what are your most difficult challenges?
For me, its being inspired on demand, keeping up with all the stuff you like to do least (ie. taxes), sourcing with meeting all triple bottom line demands. For those not familiar, triple bottom line is a term used to reference metrics evaluating economics, environment, and ethics in terms of consumption- a type of carbon foot print evaluation.
What do you find most rewarding?
Having satisfied customers/ clients, and hearing, ” My Equillibrium _ is my favorite! I wear it ALL the time!”
Who is your primary target audience?
Everyone who likes what I do. If I had to really narrow my focus, I’d say it is on a conscious consumer with originality, an eye for detail, and timeless style. As far as age goes, I don’t let numbers define me. Life is about how you feel. I’d say it’s more mindset and lifestyle than age for Equillibrium’s demographic.
What’s in store for Equillibrium customers in the near future?
Lots… we’re currently cocooning into something with wings/ lift. I can’t disclose a lot about Volume III, but it is so far- AWESOME. A close watch is being kept on the market for proper timing to launch. In the meantime, I’m keeping up with couture/ custom orders (bike messenger bags, wedding dresses, and hand bags mostly). It seems to be what is most in demand at the moment, I’m stoked to see clients spend money on those pieces!
