The Chicest Ave in the City
MEET MADISON BUYER DESIGNER: Shauna Small – Dillon Avenue
What inspired you to jump into fashion?
I was a pageant model years ago and loved when I got dressed in nice clothes with hair and makeup done. I love clothes and was always fascinated with it’s development from sketch to final garment so it was natural for me to want to be in this industry. When I was growing up, I had a family friend who was a seamstress and I would always have her make my clothes, ones that I designed in my head that was always original and many people like them.
What makes your brand different from other brands?
Dillon Avenue is different from other brands because I simply have a different style. My clothes can go from day to night a in second. Everything that I design is so unique that a women can wear it to work then out to dinner because the clothes are simply chic, youthful, fun and sexy.
As a designer, what are your most difficult challenges?
The most difficult challenges for me is trying to connect with my customers. As a newcomer, it’s hard for people to like, respect, and be interested in me or my line so I struggle with trying to develop relationships and have customers trust me. I’m not one of the big names in fashion and people tend to stick to who they know or heard of so it’s always a struggle to get them to connect with me.
What do you find most rewarding?
The joy of just doing what I love and waking up everyday excited to start working. It’s most rewarding to me when I am happy with my job and see that others like my work as well and most of all wear my clothes.
Who is your primary target audience?
My primary target audience is the working woman 20-35 years old who loves sophistication and class. All my designs shows just a glimps of skin in the right places and women who are sophisticated but trendy can relate to the line because it shows off their assets while still leaving something to the imagination.
What’s in store for your customers in the near future?
My customers can look forward to an expanding line to included accessories (scarves, jewelry, cluthes) with the next 2 seasons. I personally love evening gowns and planning on adding a collection in a couple of years.
